Telegram code not received: what to check

Updated 2026-09-27

Telegram does not always send an SMS. If you already have Telegram open on another device with the same number, the code goes there as a message from the "Telegram" account first, and the SMS is only an option after a delay.

1. Look for the code inside Telegram

On a number that was never used with Telegram this does not apply, but on your own number check every logged-in device, including desktop apps.

2. Wait for the "send code via SMS" option

The login screen shows a countdown. When it ends, a link to send the code by SMS appears. Requesting again before that does not speed anything up and can trigger a temporary block.

3. "Too many attempts"

Telegram limits how often one number, and one device, can ask for codes. After several tries it asks you to wait — sometimes hours. A new number does not help while the device is the one being limited.

4. The number is refused outright

Some number ranges are not accepted for new accounts. With a number from us you are not charged when no code arrives; pick another country and try again. Country pages show which routes deliver best.
