What BAND is for

BAND replaces the reply-all email chain and the overflowing group chat with a space built for groups: announcements that stay pinned, a shared calendar for games and rehearsals, photo albums, polls for scheduling, and chat. A youth soccer team, a school parents' group or a university alumni club can run everything in one place.

Because it is built around groups rather than contacts, members can talk without having each other's phone numbers.

Sign in with more than one method

BAND lets you create an account with a phone number, an email address or another login. Add a second method in your account settings. If you signed up with a phone number and later change numbers, the email lets you back in, and your groups, posts and photos are still there.

If you used a temporary number to sign up, adding an email is the step that keeps the account yours.

Privacy inside a group

Group members see your name, profile photo and posts in that group. Some groups share contact details for practical reasons, such as a team phone list, but that is the group's choice, not a requirement of the app. Check your profile settings to control what others see, and use a profile name the group will recognise.

Children and youth teams

For youth sports and school groups, the usual pattern is that parents or guardians join the BAND and receive updates for their child. Follow the app's age requirements and the group's rules. Coaches and leaders should avoid posting children's full names alongside locations and schedules in groups with open membership.

For group leaders

Leaders control how people join: by invitation link, by approval, or openly. For groups involving children or private information, approval is the safer setting. Review the member list at the start of each season or term, remove people who have left, and appoint a co-leader so the group is not lost if one person's account becomes inaccessible.

Invitation links

Invitation links are convenient but can be forwarded. For private groups, combine them with leader approval, and create a new link if an old one has been shared too widely.

Impersonation in groups

Scammers sometimes join groups, or copy a coach's name and photo, to message members about "fees", fundraisers or gift cards. Verify any payment request with the leader in person or through a channel you already know, and pay only through methods the group has set up openly.

Installing Band and verifying the number

When the code does not arrive

In order of how often each one is the real cause:

1. You changed your phone number and cannot sign in
   Sign in with your email or other login, then update the number.
2. The verification code did not arrive
   Check the country code and number, then request again.
3. Your join request is pending
   The group leader must approve it.
4. Someone in the group asks for money
   Confirm with the leader through a channel you know.
5. The group leader left
   A co-leader can manage the group. Leaders should appoint one early.

Working out which case you are in

1. Did you sign up with a phone number? Yes Add an email as a second login. No Good.
2. Is this a children's group? Yes Parents join, and leaders use approval. No Choose settings that fit the group.
3. Are you the leader? Yes Appoint a co-leader. No Carry on.
4. Did someone ask for money? Yes Check with the leader first. No Carry on.
