What an Alchemy account holds

An Alchemy account is a workspace for building: apps with their own API keys, request logs, usage against your plan and, on paid plans, billing. The API key is what your code sends with each request, and anyone who has it can spend your quota.

That makes key hygiene the account's main security question. It matters far more than how you verified at sign-up.

People most often use one of our numbers for Alchemy to:

Many apps expect the number you keep. We help with the cases above; we do not help anyone reach an account that is not theirs — see our acceptable use policy.

Faucets and their limits

Testnet faucets hand out free test tokens so developers can deploy and test. Because the tokens are free, people try to collect them in bulk with many accounts and wallets. Faucets respond with limits per wallet and per time period, and sometimes with conditions such as holding a small mainnet balance or having an Alchemy account.

Those limits are about the person and the wallet, not the phone. We do not support using our numbers to multiply faucet accounts.

Keeping API keys safe

Keys committed to a public repository get found by automated scanners within minutes. Keep them in environment variables or a secrets manager, use separate keys per app and environment, and restrict keys by allowed domains or addresses where the dashboard allows. If a key leaks, rotate it at once.

Front-end code that talks to Alchemy directly exposes the key to anyone who opens the browser tools. Route sensitive calls through your own backend.

Securing the login

If you sign in with a developer identity such as Google or GitHub, the security of that account is the security of your Alchemy workspace. Turn on two-factor authentication there. If you use email and password, use a unique password. Team workspaces should add members individually, not share one login.

Usage limits and billing

Alchemy meters usage in its own units per request, with a monthly allowance on the free tier and pay-as-you-go or plan pricing above it. A bug that loops over requests, or a leaked key that someone else uses, can burn through the allowance quickly. On paid plans, it can also run up a bill.

Set alerts on usage where the dashboard offers them, and watch the request logs after deploying something new. Unexpected traffic is often the first sign of a leaked key.

Phishing aimed at crypto developers

Developers in crypto get targeted with fake job offers, "coding tests" that run malicious code, fake airdrops and fake support accounts. Alchemy does not need your wallet seed phrase, private keys or remote access to your machine. Run unknown code in isolated environments and verify people through official channels.

Installing Alchemy and verifying the number

On Android

  1. Sign up at alchemy.com with email or a developer login
  2. Create an app and copy its API key into an environment variable
  3. Restrict the key where the dashboard allows
  4. Turn on two-factor authentication on your login provider
  5. Use faucets within their limits
  6. Rotate any key that has been exposed

On iPhone

  1. Sign up at alchemy.com with email or a developer login
  2. Create an app and copy its API key into an environment variable
  3. Restrict the key where the dashboard allows
  4. Turn on two-factor authentication on your login provider
  5. Use faucets within their limits
  6. Rotate any key that has been exposed

When the code does not arrive

In order of how often each one is the real cause:

  1. The faucet refuses to send tokens
You may have hit its per-wallet or time limit, or not meet its conditions.
  2. Your usage spiked unexpectedly
Your key may have leaked. Rotate it and check where it is used.
  3. Requests fail with authentication errors
Check the key, the network endpoint and any domain restrictions.
  4. Someone asks for your seed phrase to "help"
    Refuse. Nobody legitimate needs it.
  5. A verification code did not arrive
Check the number and country code, then request again.

Working out which case you are in

  1. Is your API key in public code? Yes Rotate it now. No Keep it in environment variables.
  2. Is 2FA on your login provider? Yes Good. No Turn it on.
  3. Do you need more test tokens? Yes Use several faucets within their limits. No Carry on.
  4. Did anyone ask for your seed phrase? Yes Refuse. No Good.

Questions

Does Alchemy need a phone number?

Sign-up is by email or a developer login. A phone step, where it appears, is not the account's main protection.

Does Alchemy accept rented numbers?

Sometimes, depending on the range, where a phone step appears.

Can I get more faucet tokens with more accounts?

Faucet limits apply per person and wallet, and multiple accounts break the terms.

What should I do if my API key leaks?

Rotate it immediately and check your usage.

Does Alchemy ever need my seed phrase?

No. Nobody legitimate does.

What if the code never arrives?

If you used one of our numbers, you are not charged; the held amount returns to your balance.

Do you have free Alchemy numbers?

Public free numbers are shared by everyone who visits a site, so Alchemy usually rejects them or someone else reads the code first. Our numbers are private for the whole activation.

What if Alchemy does not send the code?

You are not charged. Try another country from the table — delivery differs by country, and the measured rates show where it works best.

How much does a Alchemy number cost?

From $4.07, depending on the country. The price shown is the whole price: it is held on your balance and charged only when the SMS arrives.

Can I use the number again later?

No. An activation covers one code. If the account may ask for a code again, keep your own number on it or add an authenticator app.

Which country should I choose for Alchemy?

Right now the lowest prices are in Indonesia ($4.07), Malaysia ($4.08), Philippines ($4.08). Where we have at least 100 measured orders the table also shows the delivery rate — when there is one, pick the country with the highest rate.
