Why new accounts are reviewed

Email platforms send mail for thousands of businesses from shared infrastructure. If one customer spams, mailbox providers start filtering everyone. So Brevo, like its competitors, reviews new accounts before they can send campaigns. It asks who you are, what your website is, how you collected your contacts and what you plan to send.

Accounts with vague details, no website, or a freshly imported list that looks bought are held or refused. Honest, complete answers get approved faster.

People most often use one of our numbers for Brevo to:

Many apps expect the number you keep. We help with the cases above; we do not help anyone reach an account that is not theirs — see our acceptable use policy.

Where your contacts came from

Brevo requires that contacts agreed to receive your messages. Purchased lists, scraped addresses and shared lists from partners break that rule and, in the EU and many other places, data protection and anti-spam laws. They also produce high bounce and complaint rates, which trigger suspension.

Creating fresh accounts to keep sending to such lists is exactly what the review is designed to catch. We do not support using our numbers for it.

Authenticate your domain

Since 2024, Gmail and Yahoo have required bulk senders to authenticate their mail with SPF and DKIM, publish a DMARC policy, and offer one-click unsubscribe. Brevo guides you through adding the DNS records for your sending domain. Without them, campaigns increasingly land in spam or are rejected.

SMS and WhatsApp campaigns

Brevo also sends SMS and WhatsApp messages. Those channels have their own rules: sender registration in some countries, WhatsApp template approval, and strict consent requirements. Texting people who did not opt in is illegal in many places and quickly damages your sender status.

Protecting the account

A Brevo account holds customer contact data and can send messages in your brand's name. A takeover can mean a data breach and a phishing campaign sent from your domain. Turn on two-factor authentication, give colleagues their own logins with suitable permissions, and use API keys with care.

Keeping your list healthy

Even an opted-in list decays. People change jobs, abandon addresses and stop opening. Remove hard bounces straight away, suppress contacts who have not engaged in many months, and use double opt-in for new sign-ups. A smaller list of people who want your emails gets better delivery than a large list full of dead addresses, and keeps your account in good standing.

API and SMTP keys

Websites and apps send transactional emails through Brevo with API or SMTP keys. Store them in server-side configuration, never in public code or front-end scripts, and rotate them if they leak. Leaked keys are used to send spam through your account, which can get it suspended.

Phishing aimed at marketers

Marketing teams receive fake "account suspended", "payment failed" and "new sign-in" emails styled as their email platform, with links to fake login pages. Sign in to Brevo directly to check any notice, and treat unexpected requests to "re-verify" your account with suspicion.

  2. Your account was suspended
High bounces or complaints, or a non-compliant list, are common causes. Contact Brevo.
  3. Campaigns land in spam
Authenticate your domain and clean your list.
  4. Spam was sent from your account
Rotate API and SMTP keys, reset passwords and turn on 2FA.

Check the number and country code, then request again.

Questions

Why is my Brevo account under review?

New accounts are reviewed to protect shared sending reputation.

Does Brevo accept rented numbers?

Sometimes, where a phone step appears. The review itself is about your business.

Can I upload a purchased list?

No. Contacts must have opted in.

Why do my campaigns go to spam?

Missing domain authentication and poor list quality are the usual causes.

Is Brevo the same as Sendinblue?

Yes. Sendinblue became Brevo in 2023.

What if the code never arrives?

If you used one of our numbers, you are not charged; the held amount returns to your balance.

Do you have free Brevo numbers?

Public free numbers are shared by everyone who visits a site, so Brevo usually rejects them or someone else reads the code first. Our numbers are private for the whole activation.

What if Brevo does not send the code?

You are not charged. Try another country from the table — delivery differs by country, and the measured rates show where it works best.

How much does a Brevo number cost?

From $4.06, depending on the country. The price shown is the whole price: it is held on your balance and charged only when the SMS arrives.

Can I use the number again later?

No. An activation covers one code. If the account may ask for a code again, keep your own number on it or add an authenticator app.

Which country should I choose for Brevo?

Right now the lowest prices are in United Kingdom ($4.06), Cambodia ($4.08), Indonesia ($4.08). Where we have at least 100 measured orders the table also shows the delivery rate — when there is one, pick the country with the highest rate.
