Bitso asks for more information as you use more of the platform. Basic use starts with personal details and an official ID, such as an INE or passport in Mexico, plus a selfie to match it. Higher limits can require proof of address and information about your income or the source of funds.

That is how Bitso meets anti-money-laundering rules in the countries it serves. It only works with your own documents, and those documents have to match your phone and bank details.

Bank transfers must match your name

Deposits by bank transfer, such as SPEI in Mexico, and withdrawals back to a bank are expected to come from and go to accounts in the Bitso account holder's name. Transfers from third parties can be returned or held for review. This is one of the most common reasons for delays, and it is working as intended.

The same logic applies to anyone offering to "deposit for you" or asking you to receive money into your Bitso account and pass it on. That is how money mules are recruited, and the person whose account moved the funds can be held responsible.

Securing the account

Turn on two-factor authentication and use an authenticator app instead of SMS where possible. SIM-swap attacks, where someone takes over your number at the carrier, target crypto users because stolen funds are hard to trace. Also set a unique password, and review withdrawal addresses and devices regularly.

Fake support

Scammers impersonate Bitso support on social media, WhatsApp and phone calls, often replying to users who complain publicly. They ask for codes, passwords or remote access "to fix" a problem, or ask you to move funds to a "safe" wallet. Bitso support works through official channels and never needs any of that.

Investment scams that use exchanges

Many crypto scams use a real exchange as the on-ramp. A contact met online or through an ad persuades you to buy crypto on Bitso and send it to their "trading platform", which shows fake profits until you try to withdraw. If someone you have not met guides you to buy crypto and send it elsewhere, stop.

One account per person

Bitso accounts belong to one verified person. Letting someone else use your account, or "renting" your verified account to others, which scammers sometimes pay people to do, can make you responsible for the funds that pass through it. Keep the account for your own use only.

Changing your phone number

If you change numbers, update Bitso while you still have the old one, and move your two-factor to an authenticator app so codes do not depend on a phone line. If the old number is already gone, contact Bitso support through official channels and expect identity checks. They are there to stop someone else taking over the account.

5. A contact wants you to send crypto to their platform
   Treat it as an investment scam.
