OKX treats the phone number as part of your security setup. When you change it, or change your email, authenticator or password, the exchange holds withdrawals for a period. Trading and deposits usually continue; moving crypto out does not.

This is the single most useful fact about OKX and phone numbers. If you open an account with a temporary number and switch to your own later, expect that pause. If you plan to withdraw soon, make the switch well before you need to.

Why exchanges do this

Crypto account takeovers follow a pattern: the attacker gets the password, then tries to take control of the second factor — often by porting the victim's phone number to their own SIM or by changing the number on the account — and withdraws everything to an address they control. Once sent, crypto is almost never recovered.

A hold after any security change breaks that sequence. The real owner gets notifications, has time to react and can freeze the account before anything leaves.

Use an authenticator or passkey, not SMS alone

OKX supports stronger methods than text messages: authenticator apps that generate codes on your device, and passkeys that confirm sign-ins with your phone's own biometrics. Either one removes the dependence on the phone network and on any particular number.

SMS can remain as a backup, but the account's main defence should be one that a SIM swap cannot touch.

Identity checks and where OKX is available

In most places OKX requires identity verification before you can trade meaningfully or withdraw, and the rules depend on your country. Some countries are not served at all, and in others certain products are restricted. Using a number from another country does not change which rules apply to you: identity documents and your residence do.

The anti-phishing code

Crypto users receive a steady stream of fake emails: "suspicious login", "withdrawal pending", "verify now". OKX lets you set an anti-phishing code — a word or phrase that appears in every genuine email from OKX. An email without it is not from OKX, however convincing it looks.

Set it on day one. It takes a minute and filters out most phishing attempts.

1. Withdrawals are blocked after changing the phone number
   That is OKX's security hold after a security change. Wait for it to end; it protects your account.
2. No SMS code arrived
   Check the country code and request once more, or use an authenticator app if it is set up.
3. OKX says it is not available in your country
   Availability depends on where you live, not on your phone number.
4. An email about a withdrawal has no anti-phishing code
   It is not from OKX. Do not click anything in it.
5. Someone asked for your OKX code or authenticator code
   Refuse. It would let them sign in or withdraw.
