Why people rent a number for Vinted in the first place
Most apps on this site get rented numbers because the app itself will not open without one. Vinted is different, and it is worth saying so plainly: an account can be created, used to browse, and used to list items with nothing but an email address. The reason people still reach for a private number here is not that Vinted demands it at the door. It is that selling secondhand clothes means giving strangers a channel to reach you, and a personal mobile number is not something most sellers want handed to a buyer they will never meet.
That is a privacy decision, not a workaround, and it is the honest case this article is written around. A phone number that sits between you and a stranger who bought your old jacket is doing exactly the job it should. Where that same logic breaks down is the moment Vinted stops treating the number as a contact detail and starts treating it as proof of who you are — which happens, but later, and mostly around money rather than around getting the app open.
People most often use one of our numbers for Vinted to:
- Keeping a personal mobile number off listings a stranger can see
- Browsing and buying without adding a personal number to the account
- Trying Vinted before deciding whether to sell regularly
- Signing up while travelling without exposing a home-country number
Many apps expect the number you keep. We help with the cases above; we do not help anyone reach an account that is not theirs — see our acceptable use policy.

The moments Vinted actually reaches for the number
Signing up itself typically asks only for an email address and a password, or a linked account from another platform. The number tends to surface afterward, and at points that are not fixed to a single screen: confirming an account whose activity looks unusual for a new user, a device Vinted does not recognise, or a prompt tied to the wallet once a sale is involved. None of these are guaranteed to happen to any given account, and none of them are announced in advance — the number simply becomes relevant the moment Vinted's own checks decide it should.
This is a different pattern from an app where the number is checked once at signup and rarely again. It means an account opened months ago on a number that has long since moved to someone else can suddenly be asked to verify that same number, with no way to receive whatever Vinted sends. Anyone planning to keep a Vinted account for more than a single transaction should treat the number as something that might be asked for again, not as a box ticked once and forgotten.

Payouts are where the phone number starts to matter for real
Selling on Vinted means money moving into a balance and, eventually, out to a bank account. That path runs through identity verification and wallet checks that exist specifically because Vinted is handling payouts, not just listings. A phone number tends to sit inside that verification chain — confirming a payout request, or standing behind the identity check that unlocks withdrawing a balance in the first place.
This is the point where a rented number stops being a convenience and starts being a liability, and we want to be direct about it rather than soften it. An account that holds nobody's money is an account you can walk away from and open fresh if the number stops working. An account with a real balance sitting in it, waiting to be paid out, is an account where losing the verification channel can mean losing access to money that is actually yours. That is a fundamentally different risk than a login inconvenience, and it deserves to be treated as one.
The plan that avoids this is simple and worth doing early rather than after a payout gets stuck: keep the email address on the account current, and do not treat a rented number as the long-term answer to "how does Vinted reach me about my balance." A number rented for a week of listing is fine for listing. It is not a foundation for a payout that might land next month.

A buyer and a seller are not asking the same question
Someone browsing Vinted to buy a few secondhand items needs very little from the app beyond an email address and, eventually, a payment method for checkout. There is no balance to protect, no payout to chase, and the phone number — if it comes up at all — is far more likely to be about confirming an unusual login than about proving who receives money. A rented number is a comfortable fit for this reader with little downside, because there is nothing sitting behind the account worth losing.
A seller with actual sales is a different reader entirely. Money accumulates, a payout eventually gets requested, and identity verification enters the picture in a way it never does for a buyer who never lists anything. If the plan is to sell more than the occasional item, it is worth accepting from the start that this account will eventually need a number, and ideally contact details generally, that will still be yours weeks or months from now — not necessarily on day one, but before the first payout is requested.
Country, shipping and why the number's origin is not cosmetic
Vinted does not run as one global product. It operates market by market, and the country associated with an account shapes which catalogue is shown, how shipping is set up, and which payout paths are available. A phone number's country is one of the signals feeding into that, alongside the email domain, the language chosen and the address used for shipping. A number from a country that does not match where the account is actually being used can leave shipping options or the catalogue looking wrong in ways that are not simply a setting to flip afterward.
Shipping itself sometimes leans on the phone number directly, beyond account-level checks. Some of Vinted's shipping partners and pickup points send carrier notifications — a parcel ready for collection, a delivery attempt — by text to the number on file for that shipment. A number that stops working part-way through a sale is not just an inconvenience to the account; it can mean missing the notification that a buyer's parcel is waiting for drop-off, which is a real-world consequence, not just a login problem.
What this is for, and what it is not
What we support is straightforward: one person keeping their personal mobile number off a marketplace where strangers can see it, whether that is a buyer browsing quietly or a seller who does not want their number attached to every listing they post. That is a legitimate privacy choice and it is the only use this article is written for.
What we do not support is equally straightforward. We do not help run several seller accounts on rented numbers to dodge limits Vinted places on a single seller, and we do not help anyone deceive a buyer about who they are dealing with. A rented number for privacy is honest; a rented number used to hide from the consequences of a bad sale is not, and Vinted's own checks — the same ones described above — exist partly to catch exactly that pattern.
Installing Vinted and verifying the number
On Android
- Install Vinted from Google Play and open it
- Choose to sign up with an email address rather than a linked social account, if privacy is the goal
- Confirm the email address using the link or code Vinted sends to it
- If a phone number is requested to confirm the account, enter the rented number with its correct country code
- Enter the SMS code on the verification screen before it expires
- Set the account's country and shipping details to match where you actually are
- If planning to sell, hold off on requesting a payout until a number and email you will keep long-term are confirmed on the account
- Do not enter payout or bank details until identity verification, if requested, can be completed properly
On iPhone
- Install Vinted from the App Store and open it
- Choose to sign up with an email address rather than a linked social account, if privacy is the goal
When the code does not arrive
In order of how often each one is the real cause:
- Your connection's country does not match the number you rented
Use a connection based in, or close to, the number's own country where possible. A mismatch between where the request comes from and the number's country is a frequent reason a code is delayed or does not arrive. - The number's range is one Vinted's SMS route does not reach well
Check the country table on this page before buying; some ranges are filtered by Vinted's own delivery checks no matter how long you wait. A range with a solid recent delivery record avoids this entirely. - You requested a code more than once in a short span
Stop and wait before trying again; repeated requests tend to push the next attempt further out rather than force one through sooner. A quarter of an hour is a sensible minimum before retrying. - The verification screen timed out before the code was entered
Request a fresh code instead of retyping an old one; an expired code is rejected even if it was otherwise correct. Keep the order open so the next code can be read as soon as it lands. - The number was entered with the wrong country code or a stray leading zero
Re-check the number exactly as issued before requesting again; a mistyped digit sends the code to an unrelated number, and it will never arrive at the one you actually control. - A payout or identity check is asking for a code on a number you no longer hold
This is the gap this article warns about. There is no way to receive that code once the number has moved on; use the account's email address and Vinted's own account recovery to reach the payout instead. - A carrier or pickup point notification never arrived for a shipment
If the shipping notification relies on a phone number that has since stopped working, check the order's status directly in the app rather than waiting on a text that will not come, and contact the carrier through Vinted's shipping details if the parcel is time-sensitive. - Vinted is asking to verify a number to confirm access to a payout on an account that is not yours
Stop. We support keeping your own number off your own listings, not accessing someone else's balance, and there is no legitimate way to receive a code meant for another person's payout.
Working out which case you are in
- Are you buying, or planning to sell and receive payouts? Yes Buying only: a rented number is a comfortable fit with little downside. No Selling with payouts expected: read the payout guidance below before relying on a rented number.
- Did Vinted ask for a phone number at signup? Yes Enter the rented number with its country code and wait for the SMS code. No Continue with email alone; many signups never ask for one.
- Is a payout or identity check asking to verify the number? Yes Use a number and email you actually control long-term before requesting the payout. No Ordinary browsing and listing do not usually reach this point.
- Has the rented number's rental period already ended? Yes You cannot receive a fresh code on it; contact Vinted support through the account's email instead. No The number should still work for any pending verification.
- Is a shipping notification relying on a number you no longer hold? Yes Check the order's status directly in the app rather than waiting on the text. No Carrier notifications should reach the number as normal.
Before you request another code
- Confirm the number is genuinely new to your order, not a leftover tab from a previous one
- Check the country table on this page for how Vinted is delivering to that range today
- Choose a number whose country matches where you actually are, since it shapes shipping and catalogue
- Make sure your connection is not routed through a country far from the number's own
- Leave a gap before requesting a second code on the same number, rather than retrying at once
- Keep the account's email address current regardless of what happens to the number
- If you plan to sell, do not request a payout until you hold a number and email that will still be yours later
- Never enter bank or payout details before identity verification, if requested, can be completed with real information
- Do not use a rented number to run multiple seller accounts around Vinted's own limits
Which kind of number to use
| Kind of number | Usually works? | Privacy | Long-term recovery | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Your own SIM | Yes | Number tied to your real identity and carrier | Full recovery via the carrier if the phone is lost | The baseline; fine for both buying and selling with payouts |
| A second physical SIM | Yes | Kept apart from a primary personal number | Depends on keeping that SIM active | Reasonable for a seller account meant to last, including payouts |
| An eSIM | Usually | Same as any other mobile number once verified | Tied to the plan; losing the eSIM profile loses the number | Workable, but check it will still be active when a payout comes due |
| A prepaid SIM | Usually | Same as any other mobile number once verified | Recovery depends on keeping the prepaid line topped up | Cheap short-term option; risky if it lapses before a payout |
| A rented private number like ours | Depends on the range | Strong fit for keeping a personal number off listings | Weak alone; fine for browsing, not for a balance you plan to withdraw | Good for buyers and casual listing; not for payouts or identity checks |
| A public or shared SMS inbox | Rarely | No privacy — the inbox and any code in it may be visible to others | No recovery; anyone can see a code meant for you | Not suitable for any account, let alone one with money in it |
| A VoIP or landline-range number | Rarely | Varies by provider | Not designed for payout or identity verification | Vinted, like most marketplaces, favours mobile ranges over these |

Questions
Does Vinted require a phone number to sign up?
Not for most people. An email address is enough to create an account, browse and list items. The phone number tends to appear later, when Vinted wants to confirm an account or, especially, around a payout.
Does Vinted accept virtual or rented numbers?
Often, depending on the number's range and recent history rather than a blanket rule against rented numbers. The table on this page shows which countries are delivering Vinted codes today, and a range that struggles today can work again later.
Why would someone rent a number just to sell some clothes?
Privacy. Selling secondhand items means strangers can potentially reach you, and a rented number keeps that contact away from a personal mobile. That is the honest reason most readers of this article are here, and it is a reasonable one.
Is it safe to use a rented number if I plan to receive payouts?
Not as the long-term plan. Payouts sit behind identity and wallet checks that can reach for the phone number, and a number you lose partway through selling can complicate accessing money that is genuinely yours. Move to a number and email you control long-term before requesting a payout.
Will Vinted ask for the number again later?
It can, at moments that are not scheduled: an account or device Vinted flags as unusual, or a step tied to the wallet once a sale is involved. Ordinary browsing on an already-verified account does not usually trigger this.
Does the account's country actually matter on Vinted?
Yes. Vinted operates market by market, and the country tied to an account shapes shipping setup, which payout paths are available, and which catalogue is shown. A number whose country does not match where you actually are can leave these looking wrong.
Can a text message affect whether my parcel gets picked up?
Sometimes. Some shipping carriers and pickup points Vinted uses send notifications by text to the number on file for a shipment. A number that has stopped working can mean missing that notification, which is a real shipping problem, not just a login inconvenience.
What is the difference between a buyer's and a seller's exposure here?
A buyer with no sales rarely needs the phone number for anything beyond an occasional account check. A seller accumulating a balance eventually meets payout and identity verification, where losing a rented number carries real consequences. Plan accordingly based on which one you are.
What if the code never arrives — am I charged?
You are charged only when a code actually reaches the number; an order where nothing arrives before the window closes is refunded automatically, with nothing to claim. Check the country table before buying to avoid a range with poor delivery.
Can somebody else receive my Vinted code on that number?
Only if they already have access to the number itself while your order is active. A verification code should never be forwarded to anyone who asks for it, regardless of how the request is framed.
Can I use a rented number to run several seller accounts?
We do not support that use. Vinted places limits on seller activity for reasons of its own, and using rented numbers to get around those limits, or to hide from the consequences of a bad sale, is not the privacy use this article is written for.
Can I switch to my own number after signing up with a rented one?
Yes, Vinted allows updating the phone number on file from account settings once you are logged in. Doing this, along with confirming a current email address, before the rental ends is the safer order, especially if a payout is expected.
