Filling in the Payoneer form does not give you an account straight away. Payoneer reviews the application — your name, address, date of birth, identity document and, for businesses, company details — and approves it before money can flow. The phone number is verified as part of that application.

Everything in that review is meant to describe one real person or business consistently. The number is part of that picture, which is why using one you will not keep sits badly with an account whose whole purpose is to be trusted by payers and banks.

Consistency is what gets applications through

Applications stall or get rejected most often when details do not line up: a name that differs from the document, an address in one country and a number from another, or information Payoneer cannot verify. Nothing about that is specific to phone numbers, but a number from an unrelated country or a range that looks temporary adds one more mismatch to explain.

Use the details you will actually live with: your legal name, your real address and a number you will keep. It is the fastest route to approval.

The codes guard your earnings

Once approved, a Payoneer account holds money your clients or marketplaces have paid you. Sign-in from a new device, withdrawals to a bank and changes to your details can all require a verification code or an approval in the app. If the number on file has lapsed, those steps turn into a support case with your earnings waiting behind it.

Setting the Payoneer app as the way to approve sign-ins and payments, where available, gives the account a second route that does not depend on SMS reaching you.

Changing the phone number later

Payoneer lets you update your phone number, but because the number is part of the security of the account, the change is verified and some actions may be held while it goes through. Make changes while you can still receive codes on the old number or approve them in the app.

"You have a payment waiting" — the email to be careful with

Payoneer users are a favourite target for phishing because they are known to receive money. The usual lure is an email or message saying a payment is waiting and asking you to sign in through a link, or a caller asking for a code to "release" funds. Sign in only through the Payoneer app or by typing the address yourself, and never share a verification code.

Installing Payoneer and verifying the number

When the code does not arrive

In order of how often each one is the real cause:

1. The application is taking a long time or was refused
   Check that every detail matches your documents exactly — name, address, date of birth and country.
2. No verification code arrived
   Check the country code, wait, then request once more, or choose a voice call or in-app approval if offered on your own phone.
3. A withdrawal asks for a code you cannot receive
   Approve in the Payoneer app if it is set up; otherwise contact Payoneer support.
4. An email says a payment is waiting behind a link
   Do not click. Open the app yourself to check for payments.
5. Someone asked for your code to release funds
   Refuse. Payoneer does not ask for codes over the phone.
