An account you use at the roadside

Most apps can wait until you are home and settled. A charging app gets used in a car park, often with a low battery and patchy signal. If you cannot sign in because a code went to a number you no longer have, or your saved card has expired, you are stuck.

Set the account up with details you keep, check your payment method before long trips, and sign in once at home so you are not doing it at the charger.

People most often use one of our numbers for ChargePoint to:

Many apps expect the number you keep. We help with the cases above; we do not help anyone reach an account that is not theirs — see our acceptable use policy.

Have a backup way to start

ChargePoint sessions can usually be started from the app, with a ChargePoint card tapped on the station, and on some newer stations with a contactless bank card. Keep the physical card in the car as a backup for when your phone has no signal or battery.

Where networks support roaming, apps from other providers can sometimes start sessions on ChargePoint stations too. Check before relying on it.

Pricing is set by hosts

ChargePoint stations are owned by businesses, workplaces, cities and property managers, each setting their own prices. They may charge per hour, per kWh, per session, or add idle fees after charging ends. Check the price in the app before you plug in, and move the car when charging finishes to avoid idle fees.

Driver support

If a station will not start or stops mid-session, driver support can often start or stop it remotely. The support number is printed on stations and in the app. They may call or text you about a session, which is another reason the number on your account should be one you answer.

Fake QR codes on chargers

Criminals have stuck fake QR codes on parking meters and EV chargers that lead to lookalike payment pages. Start sessions from the official ChargePoint app, or by tapping your card on the station. Do not scan a sticker and enter card details on a page you do not recognise.

Workplace and fleet accounts

Employers and fleets often give drivers access to private stations or pay for charging through the account. Those settings are controlled by the organisation. If you leave, workplace access ends, so keep your personal payment method on the account for public charging.

Protecting a saved card

The account holds a payment method and charging history that shows where you go. Use a unique password, review sessions for any you did not start, and remove old cards. Report unknown sessions to support straight away.

When the code does not arrive

In order of how often each one is the real cause:

  1. The station will not start
Try the card or app again, then call the driver support number on the station.
  2. You were charged idle fees
Some hosts charge after charging ends. Move the car promptly.
  3. The app will not sign in at the charger
Use the ChargePoint card, or call support.
  4. A QR sticker led to a payment page
Do not pay there. Use the official app.
  5. A verification code did not arrive
Check the number and country code, then request again.

Questions

How do I start a ChargePoint session?

From the app, with a ChargePoint card, or by tapping a bank card on stations that support it.

Does ChargePoint accept rented numbers?

Sometimes, for sign-up, depending on the range. Use details you keep for the account.

Who sets the price at a ChargePoint station?

The station's host, such as a business, city or property owner.

What are idle fees?

Fees some hosts charge when a car stays plugged in after charging ends.

What if a station will not start?

Call the driver support number shown on the station.

What if the code never arrives?

If you used one of our numbers, you are not charged; the held amount returns to your balance.

Do you have free ChargePoint numbers?

Public free numbers are shared by everyone who visits a site, so ChargePoint usually rejects them or someone else reads the code first. Our numbers are private for the whole activation.

What if ChargePoint does not send the code?

You are not charged. Try another country from the table — delivery differs by country, and the measured rates show where it works best.

How much does a ChargePoint number cost?

From $4.08, depending on the country. The price shown is the whole price: it is held on your balance and charged only when the SMS arrives.

Can I use the number again later?

No. An activation covers one code. If the account may ask for a code again, keep your own number on it or add an authenticator app.

Which country should I choose for ChargePoint?

Right now the lowest prices are in United Kingdom ($4.08), Netherlands ($4.13), Latvia ($4.14). Where we have at least 100 measured orders the table also shows the delivery rate — when there is one, pick the country with the highest rate.
