Rappi puts money behind the phone number, not just a login
Ordering as a new Rappi customer starts the way most delivery apps do: type a number, wait for a text, enter the digits. A fresh rented number in a range Rappi's provider currently reaches will usually pick up that code without any trouble, and the country table on this page tracks which ranges are getting through today rather than pretending that holds steady for a whole country over time.
What is worth reading past that first screen for is what Rappi built on top of ordinary delivery. In several of the countries it serves, the same account can carry RappiPay, a card, bill payments or short-term credit, so a phone number stops being a disposable login the moment any of those features are switched on. Some part of a person's money can now be reached through that number, which is a different weight than a food app usually carries.
People most often use one of our numbers for Rappi to:
- Trying Rappi in a new city before switching to a local SIM
- Placing a first grocery or pharmacy order without a personal number on file
- Keeping a household's main number off an account used for cash orders
- Sampling the app before deciding whether RappiPay is worth setting up properly
Many apps expect the number you keep. We help with the cases above; we do not help anyone reach an account that is not theirs — see our acceptable use policy.

Cash on delivery makes the number operational, not decorative
A meaningful share of Rappi orders across its markets are still paid in cash at the door rather than through a saved card. That means a courier arriving with change to make, waiting on the buyer to confirm an amount, or needing a moment's clarification before handing over a bag. The account's phone number is how that gets sorted when something does not line up — a bill too large, an order missing an item, an address that turns out to be the wrong building.
A number that cannot take that call turns a simple handoff into a courier standing at a locked gate with cash in hand and no way to reach anyone. If a rented number sits behind an account placing cash orders, it has to stay answerable for the length of the delivery, not just for the seconds it took to receive the signup text.

RappiPay, a card and credit differ by country
Rappi has grown its financial side well beyond delivery in parts of Latin America — a digital wallet under the RappiPay name, a card in some countries, bill payments, and short-term credit lines offered to some accounts. None of that is uniform across every market Rappi operates in, and the documents, identity checks and eligibility rules attached to each product are set separately by country rather than by the app as a whole.
This article will not list which country offers which product or what paperwork each one asks for, because that detail changes and a wrong guess here would be worse than saying nothing. What holds regardless of country is simpler: once a phone number is attached to a wallet, a card or a credit line, losing control of that number risks losing control of whatever sits behind it, so the number deserves more care than a throwaway signup would.

A subscription and promo credit make an account worth taking
An account carrying a Prime-style subscription, a stored card and unused promo credit is not a blank login somebody would shrug off. Getting into one lets a stranger place orders against a card that is not theirs, spend down stored credit, or push a referral code through repeatedly to collect a bonus it was never meant to pay out more than once. That is exactly why a verification code should never be read out loud to anyone, including a caller claiming to be Rappi trying to sort out an order.
We draw the same line from the other side: this article helps someone set up their own customer account on a rented number, and it stops there. It will not walk anyone through stacking promo codes across accounts, farming a referral bonus, or opening a financial product like RappiPay or a card in a name that is not their own.
Delivering for Rappi runs on its own paperwork
Signing up to deliver for Rappi is a separate application built around the applicant's own documents — identity paperwork, and in most markets a vehicle or licence detail depending on how deliveries are made there. That process expects a phone number that genuinely belongs to the person applying and will keep belonging to them well past a short rental window, which is not what a rented number is built for.
This page covers ordering as a customer. Registering to deliver under someone else's documents, or with a number that will not still be in the applicant's hands next week, is outside anything we help set up.
A caller asking to "release the order" with your code
A pattern worth knowing before it happens: someone calls or messages claiming to be Rappi support, says an order is stuck or a payment needs confirming, and asks the customer to read back the verification code to "release" or "unlock" the order. Rappi does not need a code spoken back over a call to move an order forward — the code exists so the app itself can confirm who is signing in, not so a person on the phone can act on your behalf.
The pressure in that call usually comes from making the order sound stuck right now, which nudges someone to hand over a code just to get food moving. Hang up, open the Rappi app directly, and check the order status there instead of trusting whoever called.
Installing Rappi and verifying the number
On Android
- Download Rappi from Google Play
- Pick your country from the list, then type the rented number, code included
- Wait for the text and punch in the digits
- Set a delivery address and see what payment options that market shows
- Link a card now if you have one, or plan to pay the courier in cash
- Leave RappiPay, the card and any credit offer untouched for now
- Check account settings afterward — number and country should both read correctly
- Keep your phone near you once a cash order is on its way
On iPhone
- Get Rappi from the App Store
- Pick your country from the list, then type the rented number, code included
- Wait for the text and punch in the digits
- Set a delivery address and see what payment options that market shows
- Link a card now if you have one, or plan to pay the courier in cash
- Leave RappiPay, the card and any credit offer untouched for now
- Check account settings afterward — number and country should both read correctly
- Keep your phone near you once a cash order is on its way
When the code does not arrive
In order of how often each one is the real cause:
- No text lands even though the app says a code was sent
Rappi's SMS routing works range by range across Latin America rather than country by country, so a neighbouring range on the same table often gets through where this one stalls. Pick a different listed range before assuming the number itself is broken. - Your mobile data or Wi-Fi shows a country nowhere near the number
Bring the two closer together when you can — a Colombian number behind a connection that looks European, for instance, is a common reason Rappi's carrier drags its feet on delivery. - You mashed "resend" two or three times waiting for the code
Give it a minute instead. Rappi's texting service throttles a number that gets hit with back-to-back requests, so the fourth attempt often lands slower than the first would have. - The stores and menu on screen don't match the city you're ordering to
That happens when the country picked at signup and the delivery address point in two different directions. Fix the country in the app before the order, not after a courier is already confused about where to go. - The digits went in but the app bounced back to the start
The code had already expired by the time it was typed. Pull a new one and enter it straight away — the window Rappi gives you is short, and a stale code fails no matter how correct it was. - A courier tried calling about change for a cash order and got nothing
That's the number's line being dead at the moment it mattered most, not an app glitch. Any account taking cash-on-delivery orders needs a number a courier can actually get through to, for as long as the delivery is running. - A RappiPay, card or credit application went nowhere
Those sign-ups check that the number and the documents behind them belong to the same person for the long haul, which a rental was never built to do. Nothing here suggests the application itself was handled badly. - Logging back in fails after weeks away from the account
Ordinary once the rented number has moved on to someone else. An account worth keeping needs its number swapped for a permanent one in settings before that happens, since there is no other route back in.
Working out which case you are in
- Is this for signing up to deliver rather than to order? Yes A rented number won't carry a courier application through vetting. Apply with your own number and your own papers instead. No A rented number works fine for placing an order — carry on.
- Has the code shown up yet? Yes Type it in now, before the screen resets on you. No Look at the live range table on this page and try a different number if this range is lagging.
- Is the courier bringing you change for cash? Yes Stay by the phone until the bag is handed over — a cash delivery needs a live line, not just a verified one. No A card-paid order is lower-stakes, but staying reachable still helps if something's off.
- Are you signing up for RappiPay, a card or a credit offer? Yes Do that on your own number and your own name — a rental has no business behind a financial product. No Nothing else to check here.
- Did a caller ask you to read out your SMS code to free up an order? Yes That's a scam script — end the call and check the order inside the app yourself. No Nothing else to check here.
- Planning to keep this account running past the rental? Yes Swap in a number you'll actually keep, through account settings, before the old one expires. No Nothing more to do once you're finished with it.
Before you request another code
- Make sure this is a customer signup, not a courier application
- Check today's range table on this page rather than assuming last week's result still holds
- Line the country picked in-app up with the city the order is actually going to
- Keep your connection's country reasonably close to the number's own
- Stay near the phone once a cash order is out, in case the courier needs to confirm change
- Leave RappiPay, a card and any credit offer for a number and identity that are genuinely yours
- Never read a verification code to anyone who rings up asking for it
- Keep this number, and anyone else's paperwork, out of a courier application
- Swap in a number you'll keep, inside account settings, before this rental runs out
Which kind of number to use
| Kind of number | Usually works? | Privacy | Long-term recovery | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A postpaid line in your own name | Yes | Carries your legal identity, which RappiPay and card sign-ups check for anyway | The carrier restores it if a phone is lost or stolen | The right base for anything beyond casual ordering, financial features included |
| A spare SIM bought locally | Yes | A separate line, not linked to whatever number you use day to day | Alive as long as that SIM stays topped up or on plan | Solid for someone eating through Rappi weekly, cash orders and all |
| A travel eSIM | Usually | Verifies cleanly, no different from a physical SIM in that respect | Gone the moment the eSIM profile is deleted from the phone | Good for a short trip, but check it survives an order still in transit |
| A prepaid line bought for the trip | Usually | Verifies cleanly, no different from a physical SIM in that respect | Lives or dies with the prepaid balance, not with an account setting | A courier waiting on cash confirmation is the wrong moment for that balance to run out |
| A rented private number like ours | Depends on the range | No card, credit or wallet history attaches to the rental itself | Needs replacing in settings before the rental period runs out | Good for a look around and a first order; wrong for a financial sign-up or courier vetting |
| A shared inbox anyone can read | Rarely | None — the code sits in plain view for whoever else has it | None; the same number can be claimed by somebody else right after | Never put a wallet, a saved card or promo credit behind this |
| A landline or VoIP-style number | Rarely | Depends entirely on the provider behind it | Not built to carry a courier's call or an account recovery text | Rappi, like most Latin American delivery services, leans on real mobile ranges |

Questions
Does Rappi accept a rented or virtual number?
For a customer account, often, depending on the number's range rather than a blanket rule against rented numbers. The table on this page shows which countries are currently getting Rappi codes through.
Why does Rappi get treated differently from a plain food app here?
Because in several of its markets the same account can carry RappiPay, a card, bill payments or credit alongside ordinary delivery, so the phone number can end up tied to money, not only a login.
Does cash on delivery change anything about the number?
Yes. A courier carrying change to a cash order needs to reach the buyer if an amount, an item or an address needs sorting out, so the number has to stay answerable for the delivery, not just for signup.
Can I open RappiPay or a Rappi card with a rented number?
We would not walk anyone through that. Those products vary by country and are built around the account holder's own identity, and a rented number is the wrong foundation for a financial product tied to someone's name.
Are RappiPay, the card and credit available everywhere Rappi operates?
No, and this article does not list which country offers which one, since that detail changes and depends on local rules. Assume it varies rather than assuming your country has every feature.
Can I use a rented number to register as a courier?
It is not suited to that. Courier registration runs an identity-based check and expects a number and paperwork that genuinely belong to the applicant long-term, not a short rental window.
Is my subscription and saved card at risk if my account is taken over?
Yes. An account with a paid subscription, a stored card or unused promo credit is worth taking over precisely because someone else can spend against it. Never share a verification code with anyone, however the request is phrased.
Someone called claiming to be Rappi support and asked for my code to "release" an order — is that real?
No, treat it as an impersonation attempt. Rappi does not need your code read back over a call to move an order forward. Hang up and check the order status inside the app instead.
Can I keep using the account after the rented number expires?
Only if you replace it first. Go to account settings and enter a number you control before the rental ends; Rappi verifies the new number the same way it verified the first one.
What if the code never arrives — am I charged for the number?
No. A rental where nothing arrives before the signup window closes does not count as a successful delivery of the code, and it is refunded to your balance rather than left as a charge to dispute.
Will Rappi ask for the number again later?
Mainly if you change the number in settings, sign in on an unfamiliar device, or the account gets flagged for review. Everyday use of an already-verified account does not trigger another code.
Is renting a number for Rappi against its terms?
Rappi expects the number and identity behind an account to belong to the person using it, and we hold to a matching standard: we support setting up a customer account for privacy or travel, and we do not help anyone register as a courier under someone else's documents, open RappiPay or a card in a name that is not theirs, or stack promo and referral bonuses across accounts.
