The number is the login
Affirm signs you in with your mobile number and a code texted to it. There is usually no password to fall back on. In practice, whoever receives texts to that number can get into the account, subject to Affirm's other checks.
That puts the number at the centre of the account's security. It should be a number you will hold for years, protected by your carrier's account PIN against SIM swaps.
People most often use one of our numbers for Affirm to:
- Not recommended: Affirm is a credit account whose login is your phone number
Many apps expect the number you keep. We help with the cases above; we do not help anyone reach an account that is not theirs — see our acceptable use policy.

It is credit, in your name
Each Affirm plan is a loan. To offer one, Affirm checks your identity, including your name, date of birth, address and Social Security number details, and may run a soft credit check that does not affect your score. Some loans are reported to credit bureaus, so on-time payments and late ones can show up on your credit report.
None of that works with details that are not yours. An application that does not match your identity will simply be declined, and applying for credit as someone else is fraud.

Changing your number the right way
If you are switching carriers or numbers, update the number in Affirm while you still have the old one. Affirm may ask you to confirm your identity for the change. If the old number is already gone, contact Affirm support and expect identity checks. They are there to keep someone else from taking the account.
Carriers reassign numbers. A number you abandon with an Affirm account still attached is an open door for its next owner.

Payments and reminders
Affirm sends payment reminders and receipts by text, email and app notification, and you can turn on AutoPay. If the number on file stops working, you lose one of the channels that tells you a payment is due. Keep the number current and check the app before each due date.
Code requests and fake offers
Because the code is the key, attackers call or text pretending to be Affirm, a store or a delivery company, and ask you to read back a code "to verify" something. Never do. Also be wary of messages offering pre-approved Affirm loans through links. Go to the Affirm app or affirm.com yourself.

Questions
How do I sign in to Affirm?
With your mobile number and a one-time code sent to it.
Can I use a rented number for Affirm?
No. It is a credit account whose login is the number, and details must match your identity.
Does Affirm check my credit?
It may run a soft check to see offers, and some loans are reported to credit bureaus.
How do I change my phone number on Affirm?
Update it in the app while you still have the old number, or contact support with identity details.
Is someone asking for my Affirm code a scam?
Yes. Affirm codes are only for you.
Is Affirm available outside the US?
Affirm mainly serves the US and a few other markets, each with its own rules.
Do you have free Affirm numbers?
Public free numbers are shared by everyone who visits a site, so Affirm usually rejects them or someone else reads the code first. Our numbers are private for the whole activation.
What if Affirm does not send the code?
You are not charged. Try another country from the table — delivery differs by country, and the measured rates show where it works best.
How much does a Affirm number cost?
From $4.02, depending on the country. The price shown is the whole price: it is held on your balance and charged only when the SMS arrives.
Can I use the number again later?
No. An activation covers one code. If the account may ask for a code again, keep your own number on it or add an authenticator app.
Which country should I choose for Affirm?
Right now the lowest prices are in Algeria ($4.02), Angola ($4.02), Anguilla ($4.02). Where we have at least 100 measured orders the table also shows the delivery rate — when there is one, pick the country with the highest rate.
