What the account holds

Creative Cloud apps check your account to confirm your plan. Fonts you activated, libraries, cloud documents and shared projects live under it. If you cannot sign in, the apps may stop working after their offline grace period, and your cloud files are out of reach.

For freelancers and designers on a deadline, a lost account means lost working time. Treat the account's second step accordingly.

Use the Account Access app

Adobe offers two-step verification with the Adobe Account Access app, where you approve a sign-in on your phone, as well as with SMS or email codes. The app does not depend on your carrier or on a phone number staying yours. It keeps working if you change numbers or travel.

Set up the app, keep a current phone number and a backup email as extra methods, and remove any temporary number once you have them.

Work and school accounts are managed

If your Adobe access comes from an employer or a school, the account is usually managed by that organisation. Sign-in may go through its own system, and the admin controls licences and can reset access. The phone number on a personal profile does not change that. Ask your admin when you have trouble.

Keep personal projects in a personal account, because work accounts can be removed when you leave.

Plans, trials and cancellations

Adobe offers monthly plans, annual plans paid monthly, and annual plans paid upfront. Cancelling an annual plan paid monthly after the first weeks can involve a cancellation fee, so read the plan terms before choosing. Free trials need a payment method and are limited per person. New accounts do not reset that.

Fake Adobe emails and shared documents

"Someone shared a document with you via Adobe" is one of the most common phishing lures. The link leads to a fake sign-in page that takes your password. Open shared files from the Creative Cloud app or by signing in at adobe.com yourself. Also be wary of emails about failed payments that ask you to log in through a link.

Installing Adobe and verifying the number

When the code does not arrive

In order of how often each one is the real cause:

1. The SMS code did not arrive
   Use the Account Access app or email code if they are set up, or check the number and retry.
2. You lost the phone with Account Access
   Use another verification method, or follow Adobe's account recovery.
3. Apps say your plan is inactive
   Sign in again. If you use a work account, contact your admin.
4. You were charged to cancel
   Annual plans paid monthly can carry a cancellation fee. Check the plan terms or contact Adobe.
5. A "shared document" email asks you to sign in
   Do not click. Open files from the Creative Cloud app or adobe.com.
