WhatsApp verification code not arriving
Updated 2026-09-27
WhatsApp is one of the strictest apps about new numbers. When the code does not come, it is usually one of the reasons below — and most of them are decided before any SMS is sent.
WhatsApp decided not to send
WhatsApp checks the number range, the country, how new the device is and how often the device has asked for codes. When it is unsure it shows "try again later" or offers a voice call instead of an SMS. Nothing is wrong with the number in that case; the request was simply not sent.
"This phone number is not eligible"
Some number types are refused for new accounts. Numbers from real SIM cards are accepted far more often than virtual ones, which is why WhatsApp orders go to our real-SIM route first even though it costs more.
What to do
- Use the app on a phone, not an emulator, and with the latest update.
- Choose the SMS option, not the voice call — a voice call cannot be received on a verification number.
- If no code arrives, cancel after the minimum wait; the hold is released and you can try another country.
- Avoid many attempts in a row from the same device.
